About
Cicada Carbon is a Zimbabwe-based carbon project developer dedicated to scaling high-integrity clean cooking solutions through improved biomass cookstove projects. Operating exclusively in Zimbabwe, the company develops and implements carbon projects that reduce household emissions, improve energy efficiency, and deliver measurable climate and social impact in rural communities.
The company is at the forefront of carbon market innovation in Zimbabwe. Cicada’s cookstove initiative was the first carbon project registered on the Zimbabwe Carbon Registry, a world-class blockchain-based national registry, demonstrating a new level of transparency and traceability in carbon accounting. As a founding member of the Zimbabwe Carbon Association (ZCA), we collaborate closely with the government and international standards bodies to establish Zimbabwe as a credible, forward-looking participant in global carbon markets.
Cicada is pioneering the implementation of Corresponding Adjustments under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, with its projects generating the first carbon credits globally to receive a Corresponding Adjustment label issued through Gold Standard. This milestone represents an important step in aligning carbon projects with emerging international compliance frameworks.
Looking ahead, Cicada is actively expanding its project portfolio beyond biomass cookstoves to include Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation (ARR) projects, clean cooking transitions such as LPG, and other scalable climate solutions. Building on its strong foundation in Zimbabwe, the company aims to develop a diversified pipeline of high-integrity projects that align with national priorities and evolving global carbon market requirements.
