About

Impact Carbon develops and implements clean cooking programs in Uganda and Nigeria, partnering with local manufacturers to scale distribution of fuel-efficient charcoal cookstoves. Since 2006, we have facilitated the sale of over 1.2 million improved cookstoves, reaching 6 million beneficiaries. Our stoves deliver fuel savings of up to 50% compared to baseline technologies, reducing household cooking costs by $100+ annually while generating 1-2 tCO2e reductions per stove per year.

Our approach centers on strengthening local manufacturing ecosystems through technical capacity building, working capital support, and distribution infrastructure development. Rather than importing and distributing stoves directly, we invest in local producers who manufacture, market, and sell stoves through commercial channels. Carbon finance enables price subsidies that make improved stoves accessible to low-income households while supporting manufacturer viability and market growth.

We work with multiple manufacturer partners across Uganda and Nigeria, each serving their local markets through established retail and distribution networks. This partnership model creates local employment, builds technical capacity, and ensures programs are adapted to regional market conditions and consumer preferences.

Impact Carbon focuses on verified adoption and sustained usage, prioritizing long-term market development and household benefits.
