The Project Developer Forum (PD Forum) has elected Thiago Viana as Co-Vice Chair at its Annual General Meeting, strengthening its leadership team as the global industry body intensifies its engagement with Article 6 implementation, CORSIA supply dynamics and carbon market integrity reform.
Viana, who is based in Rio de Janeiro and serves as Manager, Climate & Carbon Projects (Energy, Waste and Industry) at EcoSecurities, joins Chair Nick Marshall and Co-Vice Chair Ayse Frey on the Forum’s leadership board. He brings hands-on experience across renewable energy, waste and industrial carbon project development, with a particular focus on feasibility analysis, implementation and long-term monitoring across Latin America and Africa.
As a UNFCCC observer organisation representing more than 65 carbon project developers across Africa, Asia, Latin America and beyond, the PD Forum shapes the regulatory conversations that matter most to developers on the ground.
Over the last twelve months, the Forum has advocated for greater policy coherence across international carbon markets ahead of COP30, signed IATA’s Supporting Alliance for CORSIA EEU Supply as a founding participant, and pushed for integrity reform that raises standards without rendering high-quality projects financially unviable.
Viana is set to replace outgoing Co-Vice Chair role Olivia Tuchten, who has served in the position for the past twelve months and has since taken up a role at the UNFCCC’s Methodological Expert Panel (MEP), where she will continue to contribute to the development of international carbon market frameworks.
Commenting on his appointment, Thiago said “Compliance carbon markets are gaining momentum again in Brazil and across the continent, Article 6 frameworks are taking shape in several African countries, and the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism is moving closer to full operation. There’s a real and growing pipeline of opportunities, from energy transition to improved agricultural practices. What I want to bring to the Forum’s leadership is a practitioner’s view of what that looks like on the ground, how projects get built, how communities are engaged, how monitoring works in practice. That’s the kind of experience that should shape the Forum’s positions, and I’m looking forward to contributing it alongside Nick and Ayse and working with the wider membership in this new role.”
